(August 1, 2026 - Opening)
(Taipei)
(Ministry of Sports)
(Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, CTOC)

(Executive Summary)

Combining the rigor of academic research with a global perspective in sports practice has always been my core objective. On August 1, 2026, the “2026 International Sports Affairs Talent Training Camp,” commissioned by the Ministry of Sports and organized by the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee (CTOC), officially commenced in Taipei. The competition this year was fierce, with 442 applicants, and I am deeply honored to be among the 150 selected participants. As a sports science researcher and an advocate for English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI), this training is not merely an extension of linguistic and communicative skills; it is a practical arena where the professional knowledge accumulated in classrooms and laboratories is transformed into real-world negotiation, diplomacy, and relationship-building within the international sports community.

(Program Objectives & Structure)

This talent cultivation program is structured into a comprehensive dual-phase training (camp courses and subsequent event internships), rigorously testing participants’ coordination and adaptability:

The program includes at least 36 hours of coursework, featuring lectures from domestic and international experts across sports, government, industry, and academia, covering a multidisciplinary spectrum of knowledge.

Utilizing the “Mentor-Mentee Program” and “Peer Mentoring Program,” mentors and senior group leaders guide us in delivering all-English presentations on designated topics. This aligns perfectly with the active learning strategies, such as Think-Pair-Share, that I implement in university classrooms.

After passing the first-phase assessment and obtaining the “Certificate of Completion,” participants will engage in internships across hundreds of domestic international events (e.g., VIP reception, event emceeing, and the execution of the Olympic model) to earn the “Certificate of Training” and be officially registered in the national talent database.

(Core Course Highlights)

The opening ceremony on the first day was co-attended by CTOC Vice President Chen Shih-Kuei, Ministry of Sports Counselor Lu Chung-Jen, and CTOC Secretary-General Hsu Hsiao-Tzu, who encouraged us to inject new vitality into Taiwan’s participation in international sports affairs. The high-level practical courses on the first day laid a macroscopic foundation for the entire training:

Presented by Ministry of Sports Counselor Lu Chung-Jen, this session provided an in-depth analysis of the current status and future direction of our nation’s sports policies.

國際政經現勢 (Current International Political and Economic Affairs)：
A compelling lecture by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Wu Chih-Chung helped us grasp global political and economic trends, alongside the challenges and breakthroughs Taiwan faces in the current international landscape.

亞洲體壇與國際參與 (Asian Sports Community and International Participation)：
Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Executive Board Member Chen Kuo-Yi shared his extensive practical experience, discussing the development of the OCA and the strategic thinking required for Taiwan to secure positions in international organizations.

(Bridging Academic Science with Sports Diplomacy)

“Possessing the negotiation skills for international sports affairs is akin to publishing a globally impactful journal article in the academic community. Language is merely the vehicle; the true core lies in the underlying professional profoundness, logical reasoning, and cross-cultural empathy.”

The experience of participating in the International Sports Affairs Talent Training Camp not only allowed me to exchange insights with outstanding peers from diverse backgrounds—including athletes, sports organizations, and industry professionals—but also prompted me to reflect on how to align English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) skills from higher education with international negotiation practices. Moving forward, I will carry these invaluable political, economic, and practical experiences into my continuous efforts in academic research and teaching, hoping to contribute to Taiwan’s bids for international sporting events and the enhancement of our global visibility.
